Regional Convention and Competition
The Grand Rapids Chorus is a proud member of Sweet Adelines International which spans across five continents and has membership of more than 26,000 women in over 600 choruses. The International organization has divided sections of the United States and the world into 35 Regions. Each year those regions have the opportunity to have a convention and competition. The winners of those competitions qualify to participate in an International competition that is held each year.
Competition is a major and fun part of the barbershop world that helps keep us focused on raising the bar of performing excellence. We come together to compete and to see who really has top form. There are a number of judging categories, and the choruses and quartets compete by singing both a ballad and an uptune. We encourage each other, cheer each other on, and once the medals have been handed out, we sing and party into the night!
In May of 2011 the Grand Rapids Chorus competed against other Lake Michigan Region 3 choruses and took 2nd place over all. We look forward to preparing for our next competition in the spring of 2012.
