Grand Rapids Sweet Adelines is a membership organization of female singers, who meet regularly to practice, perform, socialize, and have fun. We currently have over 75 singers of all ages, all walks of life, and all parts of the Greater Grand Rapids area.This fantastic chorus has been reaching audiences in Michigan and all over the world since 1951.
GRSA is an entity of Sweet Adeline's International, which is a worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barber shop harmony through education and performances.
Sweet Adelines Regions 3 covers West Michigan, Northern Indiana, and the Chicago area. Local chapters include Grand Rapids, Battle Creek, Richland, and Grand Haven.
The main purpose of Grand Rapids Sweet Adelines is to get out and sing for our community. We sing at annual shows, a number of community events, and at an annual competitions. We are available to sing at your next function or event.
The Grand Rapids Chorus continues to be a favorite source of entertainment, especially during the winter holiday's when they host their annual Holiday show featuring special entertainers from around the area.

In addition to sharing our music with others, another great passion of ours is learning more about the art of acapella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. A couple of times a year, we will get coaching from a visiting master in the art of barbershop, where we learn many fabulous tricks of the trade.

Grand Rapids Sweet Adelines participates in the Region
3 chorus competition in
Region City, State. Competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses from our region to come together to sing for each other, and get some constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories get to travel to International Competition, which is held in the fall in a city selected each year. In 2009, International Competition will be held in Nashville.

Sweet Adelines International is active in the education of young people. Their young Women in Harmony program offers to music educators a means of including the study and performance of barbershop harmony in school music programs. They are also very involved in charitable and community activitites. Sweet Adelines Performances are often shared with scholoarship funds, health care and social services programs, and the arts and humanities.
Grand Rapids Sweet Adelines is a chapter of Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organization of approximately 26,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The organization features more than 1200 registered quartets and 600 choruses. Chartered chapters are located in Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Scotland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Wales and most of the 50 states in the United States. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
