WHAT IS "POP"? We are pleased to continue our Performance Opportunity Program (POP). GRC rehearses and performs year-round. Guests are welcome to visit any Monday evening rehearsal, but membership is required to perform with the chorus. Once a year we offer an opportunity for guest singers to experience the fun of performing a capella harmony without a membership requirement. Some singers enjoy this chance to sing with a limited time commitment and no membership obligation. Others find this taste of harmony so rewarding that they return after the holidays to investigate becoming a GRC member.
WHO MAY PARTICIPATE? Women who can sing. (Dance is a bonus, but not required!) No upper age limit! If you are under 18 you will need an adult sponsor to participate with you (the sponsor may be a guest or a member).
WHERE IS THIS HAPPENING? Holiday rehearsals happen at GRC's regular rehearsal location: St. Mary Magdalen Church Fellowship Hall 1213 - 52nd Street, SE Kentwood, Michigan
WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT? We prefer that you attend ALL of the holiday rehearsal and attendance at the performance is required. Check the rehearsal and performance schedule and let us know when you register if you have a schedule conflict.
IS THERE A FEE? There is no fee for this guest opportunity.
DO I HAVE TO AUDITION? For POP, there isn't a formal audition, but you do need to demonstrate that you can carry a tune. When you register at your first visit, you will be voice tested. This is done one-on-one with a member of our music staff and will consist of singing simple scales to find your vocal range and singing part of a familiar song to check your "tune carrying" ability. Our staff member will ask you a few questions about your music background and experience and suggest a voice part for you to try (melody-Lead, or harmony-Tenor, Baritone or Bass).
WHAT'S PROVIDED? We'll assign a booklet of music for you to use while learning the show repertoire. We'll also provide a "teaching" CD with the holiday repertoire sung in your voice part.
WHAT ABOUT COSTUMES? You will find out all about costumes at rehearsal.. so be sure not to miss any!
