Ann Jarchow
1976,
Columbus, Ohio was the time and place for the “awakening” moment for Ann
Jarchow. She had been involved in
theater in high school, college and Community Theater, but could not continue
the pace required, while raising her children.
One of her co-actors suggested she consider a group called Sweet Adelines
– they like to sing, dance and perform and only meet one night a week!
On her first visit to the Columbus Chorus – she was hooked!
They were singing a song that her mother had sung while she was growing
up and she had never heard the song since.
It was like a connection had been formed that very evening.
After 3 years singing with Columbus, Ann and her husband, Dan moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan. The first thing she did, with boxes still unpacked and not knowing her way around town, was visit the local chapter. Again – there was that connection and she felt at home immediately!
In 1984, Ann officially became the Director of the award-winning Grand Rapids Sweet Adelines. Ann has held positions on the Board of Directors, was the Director of Musical Activities for the Region, sung baritone and lead in several award-winning quartets and is a coach to other choruses and quartets. In addition, Ann had the distinction of being the first woman to direct the Great Lakes Men’s Chorus for 3 years, winning the coveted district first place each of those 3 years.
Ann's radiance and energy on the competition stage has earned her the label of "showman" by renowned Judges. This director is always "on" and it is evident in her performance as she outshines anyone in her path.
